Dalannah Gail Bowen sings with both incredible power and surprising gentleness, taking these familiar songs into new territory. Dalannah is a veteran of the Vancouver music scene. She has graced the stage with many performers from Freddie Hubbard to BB King. Her current CD “Them Menz” is receiving critical acclaim as well as major airplay across North America. Dalannah has also done extensive community work on the Downtown Eastside. “It’s that voice! Smoky! Earthy! Soulful! Powerful! But it’s not just the voice, it’s what she does with it. So much emotion! So much control (Canadian Musician).
Karen Graves weaves evocative melodic lines on soprano & tenor sax and flute, with a nod to original arrangements and adventurous departures. During her years in Vancouver, Karen has had the pleasure of playing with stellarmusicians such as Linton Garner; Claude Ranger; The Temptations; Long John Baldry and many more. She has also had the honour of studying with and performing in concertwith Slide Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, and Chucho Valdez. Along with composing for and leading her own band, Karen performs both as a sideman, and a regular with such bands as Soulstream and Mimosa.
Simon Kendall explores the full scope of the grand piano – indulging his rollicking gospel self as well as his tender solo piano persona. Simon has spent over 40 years composing, performing and producing an eclectic array of music for live performance, theatre, television, radio, cinema, and dance. A founding member of Doug & the Slugs, he’s also performed and recorded with Cowboy Junkies, Colin James, Be Good Tanyas, Jim Byrnes, Ridley Bent, Sharkskin and many others. Simon has released 3 solo instrumental CD’s, won awards for film composition and produced or played on countless album projects.
Anchoring the group is the compelling acoustic bass of Paul Bergman. Paul has been a professional musician for 40 years, beginning in Vancouver with bands such as Scarecrow and Weather. While in Whitehorse he played with Goin’ South, then studied jazz in Edmonton, Banff and Montreal where he played in the popular band Living Proof. Resettled in Vancouver he has played with John Reischman, Slow Drag, Corcovado and presently with Swing Reel, Q5, Late Thaw and EVM among others.
